COMMUNIST Party of Ireland candidate in Cork North West, Alex Homits, has withdrawn his candidacy, the party announced this week.

However, Alex has endorsed his colleague Michael O’Donnell to run instead as the candidate for the Communist Party of Ireland.

Michael O’Donnell was born in Kilmallock, Co Limerick and emigrated to England.

There, he worked in unskilled employment, until he qualified as a teacher, specialising in teaching dyslexic children.

He returned to Ireland in the late eighties when he continued his teaching work throughout Cork city and county.

As a Communist he firmly believes that not only do we need to change the Government, but the system of Government itself, which promotes Capitalism for the benefit of the few and to the detriment of the mass of the population.

‘Government must be Socialist, run by the working people for the benefit of all,’ he says.

Michael will launch his campaign at a public meeting to be held in Ballincollig this Saturday.

The meeting will be at the White Horse Inn at 4pm, and it will be preceded by lunch at 1.30pm at the same venue.

Eugene McCartan, general secretary of The Communist Party of Ireland will be a guest speaker.
