AN important demonstration, which should be of great interest to farmers, will take place at Macroom Mart on Thursday next, July 6th, from 11am to 1.30pm.

Those who attend the event will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the new regulations for the use of agricultural vehicles on the public road. This includes lights, markings, etc as well as the towing capacity of all vehicles, including jeeps and cars.

The Gardai will be present and will use a weighbridge to demonstrate the legal requirements and how to assess them.

This is an outdoor event and will have a full display of agricultural machinery and vehicles to outline the new regulations and also the safety hazards of working with machinery.

The event has been organised by Cork IFA in conjunction with the Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority. The Cork Fire Service and Cork Rapid Response will also attend to inform those present of how to respond in the event of an accident. In addition, they will give an outline of the service which they provide.

Cork IFA regional development officer, Sean Clarke, is encouraging all farmers and their families to attend this important one-off event, so as to inform themselves of the regulations on the safe use of machinery and agricultural equipment. He thanked Cork Marts for the use of their premises for the demonstration, and also IFA Farm Business Skillnet for their sponsorship.

Mr Clarke advised all farmers to be safety conscious at all times this summer, with particular focus on the safety of children during the holiday period.
