IFA president Joe Healy was on hand this (Thursday) afternoon in Bantry to pay tribute to the local farmers who marched the 217 miles to Dublin in October 1966 in support of improving farm incomes. The Portumna man unveiled a plaque outside St Brendan’s Church in Wolfe Tone Square to mark the golden jubilee of the seminal farmers’ march.

Five of the 16 men who marched the whole way to the capital 50 years ago this month were present and they, along with representatives of the other 11 who are since deceased, received special presentations to mark the occasion.
