BRYAN Moore has been awarded the Clonakilty Agricultural College Best Farm Business Plan prize of 500, sponsored by AIB.

BRYAN Moore has been awarded the Clonakilty Agricultural College Best Farm Business Plan prize of €500, sponsored by AIB.

Currently in final year of his Advanced Certificate in Agriculture – Dairy Herd Management Course, Bryan received the highest grade for his interview and farm business plan, which focused on upgrading his existing farm infrastructure and increasing cow numbers incrementally over the next five years.

Donal Whelton, AIB agri advisor, announcing the award winner, said: ‘AIB is delighted to again partner with Clonakilty Agricultural College for the AIB-Teagasc Best Farm Business Plan Awards.

The initiative places a strong emphasis on farm planning and financial planning, both key skills necessary for effective farm management in today’s environment.

‘We have been very impressed by the quality and standard of farm plans and by the confidence of the students we met and interviewed here in Clonakilty Agricultural College,’ he added.

Speaking on behalf of Clonakilty Agricultural College, Keith Kennedy, assistant college principal, said: ‘Teagasc places a lot of emphasis on farm planning in our education programmes. The continued partnership with AIB greatly enhances the value of the learning for the students by having an established agri advisor come to talk to the students about financial planning during the course and then meeting with them individually to go through their farm plans at the end of the course. While one student was selected for the award, the opportunity to see how a farm plan is examined by a bank is appreciated by all students.’

Bryan Moore will now represent Clonakilty Agricultural College and compete against students from Greenmount Agricultural College and respective Teagasc and private agricultural colleges for a €1,000 bursary and 2015 AIB All Ireland Best Farm Business Plan Award.
