Push for Progress is the title of an event to mark International Women's Day which will feature some of Ireland's leading business women

PUSH for Progress is the title of an event to mark International Women’s Day which wil feature some of Ireland’s leading business women including Cocoa Brown founder Marissa Carter and communications expert, author and columnist Terry Prone.

Organised by the Local Enterprise Office Cork North and West, it will take place in the Celtic Ross Hotel, Rosscarbery on March 8th. 

The event will include a wide variety of speakers including business woman, ex Fair City actress and mentor Rachel Sarah Murphy, branding expert and entrepreneur Jennie McGinn, and West Cork yoga therapist Jess Hatchett. Attendees will also have the opportunity to network and make new connections throughout the day which will begin at 9.30am and conclude after lunch at 3.30pm.

Christine Heffernan, business adviser, LEO Cork North and West, said: ‘We have engaged some of the straightest talking women in business to make this a one day event of learning and networking not to be missed. The event is open to all women in business, from start-ups to established businesses to new entrepreneurs or those with a business idea who want to give themselves the time and space to learn new techniques from hugely inspiring female founders.’

Meanwhile, client companies of Cork County Council’s Local Enterprise Offices (LEOs) have announced the creation of 258 jobs in 2017 by client micro-enterprises. The Cork North and West and South Cork LEO’s also granted €1.19m of financial supports in 2017 for manufacturing and internationally-traded micro-enterprises throughout the county. 

The announcement was made at the launch of this year’s Local Enterprise Week which runs from March 5th to 9th.

Throughout 2017, Cork County LEO’s delivered training to more than 2,320 people through their 152 business training programmes. 

The offices also engaged with 39 schools and more than 4,100 Transition Year students who participate in their Schools Enterprise Programme. 

A further 744 business owners received mentoring through the LEO’s unique mentoring programme which connects appointed mentors from a cross section of professions to business owners.

Kevin Curran, head of enterprise, LEO Cork North and West said: ‘2017 was one of our most successful years in terms of grant funding which has led to the creation of almost 260 jobs for the region. Co Cork is on the up and we are proud to support our business owners and entrepreneurs who are committed to creating jobs and growing their businesses.’
