SKIBBEREEN Golf Club has been granted planning permission to develop its facilities.

Lady captain Bernie Ryan has confirmed that new toilet facilities will be located close to the 8th tee-box with plans to refurbish the clubhouse also in place.

Temporary toilets, which were put in place shortly after the course was extended to 18-holes in 1993 will now be replaced.

‘We are continually investing in the course and the clubhouse,' said Bernie, who is part of a management team that has big plans for the future development of the club which now has  500 members.

‘The temporary facilities were quite adequate at the time, but with the increased numbers now playing, and the change in standards and requirements the club's management committee have decided to make this upgrade a priority.'

Bernie confirmed that the committee has submitted an application for funding to the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport under the Sports Capital Programme.

She said the management committee is optimistic that the full cost of the toiletupgrade will be covered by the grant, so they can allocate the club's resources to other improvement works, such as upgrading the practice facility and machinery, and the refurbishment of the clubhouse.
