Cancer care boost from MSD

MSD IN Brinny has raised €19,067 to support the local branch of the Irish Cancer Society. 

The money was raised through a combination of activities that took place to mark Daffodil Day, with the cheque being presented to the Irish Cancer Society at a recent ceremony hosted by MSD in Brinny.

To support the Daffodil Day fundraising, employees took part in a range of events organised by MSD in Brinny to raise awareness and much needed funds for a deserving cause.  One of the site’s most eagerly anticipated events was ‘Shave or Dye’, which saw Brinny employees John Daly, Kieran O’Sullivan, Declan Fleming, Philip Singleton and John Sheehan shave their heads, while Gary P. Collins and Kerry Sikora both dyed their hair bright pink to mark the occasion.

‘Tour de Brinny,’ pitted departments against each other to see who could rack up the most kilometres on a spinning bike. Other activities included a special ‘Brinny Bingo’ event for employees, as well as a table quiz, cake sale, basketball challenge and mini golf tournament.

 In addition to the fundraising efforts, a number of Brinny employees visited 11 primary schools in the locality to raise awareness of the Irish Cancer Society amongst pupils.

Barry Mulcahy, Site Lead at MSD in Brinny who recently announced 210 new jobs and a €180m investment said: ‘Our work within the area of oncology means that the work of the Irish Cancer Society is particularly close to our hearts. The money we’ve raised will go straight to the charity to help ensure that they can continue to provide support to those affected by cancer in Ireland.”

 The Brinny site has been a vibrant part of the local Innishannon community for nearly 35 years and is now one of the region’s largest employers, with a team of 500 people on site. 

Some of their most successful treatments are for oncology, hepatitis C and rheumatoid arthritis.
