A CORK software company, that started life in Bandon, and provides employee communication solutions to global corporations, has rebranded in preparation for further expansion.

Newsweaver, which has developed category-defining technology at its Cork HQ, changed its name to Poppulo on Saturday, and unveiled new software which it believes will transform the growing employee communications industry.

Poppulo is already the leading player and has a portfolio of global brands that includes Nestlé, Aon, Experian, Rolls-Royce, Johnson Controls and Novartis.

Founded by Andrew O’Shaughnessy in Bandon in 1996, Poppulo has a staff of almost 150, with offices in Cork and Boston. Its software, which has been developed exclusively in Cork, and has never been outsourced, is used by almost 900 companies in over 100 countries around the world.

In December 2015 the company announced it would create 60 highly skilled new jobs within two years, and has already delivered on its promise seven months ahead of schedule.

Major new international clients, pioneering new software development and a strategic rebranding positions Poppulo for further expansion as it cements its position as the industry leader.

Speaking about the announcement, Andrew O’Shaughnessy, CEO and founder of Poppulo said: ‘It is a very exciting time for the Irish tech industry, and we’re very proud to be part of that. Tens of millions of employees worldwide receive communications created with Poppulo software every week, all developed by a relatively small indigenous Irish company.’

He said the name change to Poppulo, which comes from the Latin for people, was because people are at the heart of the company. ‘We believe that an engaged workforce aligned behind a common purpose can transform the performance of an organisation,’ he said. ‘There are direct links between employee engagement and company success, and it’s no coincidence that the most successful companies in the world tend to have very sophisticated employee communications functions. Poppulo was created to take employee communications to a higher level and place it the heart of organisations where it belongs,’ he said.
