After a very dramatic Academy Awards’ moment that will go down in history for all of the wrong reasons, we are now officially at the end of awards season for another year.

So what can we take from this year’s fierce and fabulous series of prestigious ceremonies and red carpet parades – other than the fact that in retrospect, having two winning envelopes per award might not be the best idea? The hottest, must-have fashion trends of course!

While it is a given that we won’t be donning the floor sweeping gowns for a Saturday night on the town any time soon, the red carpets provide a great platform to showcase some seriously on-trend looks that can be incorporated into our regular Joe Soap wardrobes quite easily and effectively and more importantly, without breaking the bank.

Here is a rundown of the A-list trends that we will be copying over and over again this spring/summer…

Metallics

The trophies weren’t the only thing shimmering during awards season this year, as many A-listers rocked up to the red carpet in a vast array of dazzling metallics.

From glistening gold and sparkly silver to shiny gowns in all the colours of the rainbow, the trend was at the forefront of this year’s fashion parade. Add a sequined blazer to a little black dress to gain instant style points or go for all out glitz and glam with a shimmery dress that’s begging to be shown off on the dancefloor.

Fringing

The Dancing with the Stars crew will be happy to hear that their glam and glitzy costumes are bang on the money this season. Fringing is no longer relegated to the dancefloor as they are having a major style moment for spring/summer 2017.

Celebs like Emma Stone and Olivia Munn rocked the look to perfection at the Oscars, perfectly combining vintage art deco with contemporary glam. Work the trend in your own way this season with a flapper-style dress paired with edgy stilettos or wear a fringed and embellished top with your favourite skinnies for a more casual nod to this red-carpet look.

Perfect pastels

Worlds away from the bold and shimmery metallic trend but equally as prominent was this year’s penchant for pretty pastel colours on the red carpet. Various shades of soft lilac and blush pink were in abundance and combined with romantic ruffles and floaty chiffon, á la Jenny from the Block, this look made a beautiful statement.

These soft tones can wash out pale complexions, so play around with the colour palette and opt for slightly darker tones that may be more suited to Irish skin. It is the perfect colour for the summer ahead, so get shopping now!
