Like I said last week, just because you have a busy lifestyle doesn’t mean you can’t have a healthy lifestyle. Why not? What reason do you have to not be at least somewhat healthy? Make it happen by saying ‘no’ to certain things in your life and ‘yes’ to other things. Say no to things like fast food (now and then is ok!) and yes to exercise and movement. Now, I’m not saying you have to go on a diet and become a fitness fanatic, but I am talking about having a better, healthier way of life.
Structure yourself everyday. Take five minutes each night and go through what’s on the agenda the following day. It doesn’t have to be a detailed plan. School, work, activities, training and cooking should be top of the list. Once you have this list sorted then the smaller things will fall into place. Don’t get stressed out. If you do you will develop tension in your muscles, and that’s one thing to be avoided.
Muscle tension refers to a condition in which muscles of the body remain semi-contracted for an extended period. It is caused when a muscle contracts (shortens) and does not release, which is not a healthy condition. It can be caused by the effects of stress, or overuse through physical activity and can lead to episodes of pain. Basically when the body is stressed, muscles tense up. Muscle tension is almost a reflex reaction to stress, which is the body’s way of guarding against injury and pain.
Life itself can be stressful. When stressed, your body produces hormones that increase muscle tension and pain sensitivity. Stress can change the body’s nervous system by constricting blood vessels and reducing blood flow to the tissue and nerves in the body. This process causes a decrease in oxygen and a build up of biochemical waste products with the muscles resulting in muscular tension, muscle spasms and muscle pain. This pain can be quite debilitating and a person may need to seek therapy to get relief.
Muscle tension can be treated using non surgical options like massage, exercises and heat therapy. If left untreated, it will cause a number of common conditions such as neck and shoulder pain, Back pain and headaches. A deep tissue massage from a registered therapist can really help the issue.Also it’s very important to remember that sore muscles might be due to something other than muscle tension and physical activity and in this regard you should seek medical advice from your doctor. The first priority will probably be to treat the primary condition.
So that’s it, think healthy, avoid that stress and please don’t ignore that pain. Get it sorted!
