Noreen wins West Cork over-60s’ talent final

A 61-year-old Clonakility grandmother won the West Cork heat of the Over-60s’ Talent Competition last week.
Noreen Hurley was one of the eight contestants who participated in the local heat at Ballinspittle. The event was organised by Josie Hayes.
A mother of three daughters, Noreen has one granddaughter, two-year-old Chloe. She is the youngest contestant to have been selected to go forward to the overall semi-final in the City Hall.
Noreen sang “I Will Always Love You,” a song made famous by the Furey Brothers. From Tawnies Crescent, Noreen is a well-known singer in Clonakilty and is a frequent voice in local singing competitions and at social events. She is also a long-time member of Clonakilty Singing Club, having been involved in all their musicals over the last 15 years or so.
Speaking to competition organiser, Paddy O’Brien, she said that she has a great interest in the Over-60s’ competition for many years and that it is a “great honour to represent West Cork in the semi-final.”
A native of Kilbrittain originally, she has been living in Clonkility for many years. Also present at the Ballinspittle heat was Canon Tom Kelleher, PP.
The semi final will take place at the City Hall in Cork on April 18 next.
