BLACKPUDDING boss Colette Twomey is the new owner of Lisselan Estate outside Clonakilty in what’s thought to be a €3m deal.

The estate, which includes an impressive 19th century French-style chateau, on over 315 acres, complete with a nine-hole golf course, spectacular gardens and stunning riverside setting, had been on the market since 2014 with an original price of €9m.

However, this was slashed to €3.6m when it was re-launched in 2016. Last September, it was believed to have been sold to a mystery buyer but the sale did not go through and since then speculation was rife that the local businesswoman had aquired the property.

Club captain of Lisselan Golf Club, Dominic McSweeney led the congratulations to Colette, herself a keen golfer, and posted on their Facebook page: ‘On behalf of the management committee, gents committee and the members, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Colette Twomey on her acquisition of Lisselan Estate. We wish Colette the best of luck and we are looking forward to many more years of golf in this lovely setting,’ said the post. Other online comments have been sincere in wishing the Mrs Twomey well, with many saying they were glad it had been bought by a local.

Colette, who invested €7m in a food production facility on the other side of Clonakilty last year, hasn’t yet outlined her plans for the landmark property.
