A STRIKING photo featuring two Castletownbere-based fishermen has won the Working at Sea category of a prestigious photo competition.

‘Homeward Bound’ by Ballycotton fisherman John Roberts took the title in the Shipwrecked Mariners’ Society’s Ultimate Sea View photography competition.

The photo captures fishermen Neil Phil Cavanagh and Chris O’Neill sharing a lighter moment on the stern of the Castletownbere-based trawler Eternal Dawn, as the sun sets on another day at sea fishing.

Photographer John is a crewman on the Eternal Dawn and his photos, including the winning picture, have regularly appeared on the front cover of The Skipper magazine. This is the second time John has won this award.

The eagerly-anticipated results of the UK-wide photography competition ‘Ultimate Sea View’ were revealed this week by maritime charity, the Shipwrecked Mariners’ Society, following a challenging judging process of over 1,300 entries.
