CLONAKILTY native Tara McCarthy is to be the new chief executive of the Irish food board, Bord Bia.

Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Michael Creed made the announcement last week that Ms McCarthy will succeed Mr Aidan Cotter as chief of the organisation. She is currently the chief executive of the fisheries board, BIM.

‘Tara McCarthy will bring a wealth of domestic and international experience to her new role at a very important juncture in the agri-food industry during this period of challenge and transition. I wish her every success in her new role,’ Minister Creed said.

He went on to say: ‘I would like to take the opportunity to pay tribute to Aidan Cotter. His superb leadership skills combined with qualities of strength and determination have delivered excellence in Bord Bia market insight, quality and promotion services and a close partnership with the agri-food sector in driving sustainable growth.’

Ms McCarthy will take up her role immediately following the retirement of Aidan Cotter.
